At IRIS RETREAT, nature has always been at the heart of what we do. In 2027, we are taking a more conscious step towards living gently with our surroundings and becoming more eco-friendly.

Rather than simply buying products labelled “eco-friendly”, we want to look at what we already have at Iris and find ways to make, reuse, repurpose and return things to nature.

We are beginning to make many of our own products, including handmade soaps for our guest rooms, natural spa products and simple, environmentally conscious cleaning products. We will also be creating natural insect repellents, using ingredients that are kinder to both our guests and the environment.

Even what might normally be considered waste can have a useful purpose. The ash from our fireplaces will be used in the garden where appropriate, while fallen branches and leaves are left to decompose naturally, returning their nutrients to the earth and providing habitat for the many small creatures that form part of our natural ecosystem.

We will continue looking for ways to reduce unnecessary packaging and waste, reuse what we can and make better use of the natural resources available to us.

This is not about becoming a perfect eco-retreat overnight. It is about making thoughtful changes, one step at a time, and finding ways to work with nature rather than against it.

Our journey has begun, and as we discover new ways to make Iris Retreat more sustainable, we will share them here.
